Opals have been found all over the world for centuries. The name opal is believed by some to come from the Greek "Opallus" which means to see a change in color, and later the Latin word "Opalus" meaning precious stone.

Opal comes in many varieties, the most popular being Fire Opal, Ocean Opal and Pink Opal. Opal's internal structure makes it diffract light; depending on the conditions in which it formed it can take on many colors. Fire Opals are transparent in color with warm body colors of yellow, orange, red and flashes of bright green. Ocean Opal is transparent to blue in color and will usually be found with bright flickers of green, yellow, orange and or red. It helps maintain the water balance if you frequently wear the stone. It uses the moisture from ones skin and the air.

It ranges between a 6-6.5 on Mohs scale. Opal is reported to be able to bestow courage, stamina, will-power and energy. It has also been said to help solve depression.

It is believed that the stone is so full of animation, that it could have only been created from the waters of paradise.
